LOK8U NUM8-PINK Child Locator GPS Watch

Great Price "LOK8U NUM8-PINK Child Locator GPS Watch" for $179.99 Today

I experienced every single problem that others on this review board experienced, plus I am getting double charged the monthly fee because of the initial set up problems with the web site and registering 2 watches instead of just one. To summarize:

1. One of my watches did not start up at all (it just defaulted to 11pm and could not receive any directions).
2. I could not get the time correct on either watch once they both did get the signal (the software update fixed the non-functioning watch).
3. My cell phone triangulation put my kids in Mississippi (we live in Chicago). The software update fixed this problem.
4. Could never get a GPS signal, so accuracy was only 1000 meters-1400 meters. Had to "train" the watches by leaving them outside on 2 min live track. Took several days, so be patient.
5. Shipped without wall chargers (so I have to use my computer to charge them).
6. Could not get second watch registered and then got double charged on it once I finally did (for consecutive months).

I have called customer service at least 8 times, talked to 4 different people (some helpful, some not), and slowly each problem is being addressed. I basically have to start over each time I call, but I am down to just problems 5 and 6 now. In the end it is (probably) worth the hassle for the peace of mind on field trips, play dates, etc. The watches are very large (my 3 year old will only wear it for about an hour), so I just put them in my kids' coat pockets for now. I looked at several locator devices before going with this one, and I think this is the best protection without spending loads of money on the device and monthly fees. Since the technology is so cutting edge, I am willing to cut them some slack and recommend the product, but I hope they learn from their mistakes. I am prety sure a majority of the operational problems are related to the difference in size between the UK and the US, but it seems like they are getting a handle on them.

LOK8U NUM8-PINK Child Locator GPS Watch Overviews

nu·m8 (pronounced new-mate) is the world's first and smallest GPS locator device specifically designed with children in mind. nu·m8 is a watch that conceals GSM and GPS modules that enable you to locate your child, whenever you feel you need to know, via the internet or through your mobile phone (SMS/Text).

Give Your Kids Freedom... and You Peace of Mind

nu·m8 is the first GPS locator that actually locates your child not just the device through a unique and patented mechanism. Unlike other devices, nu·m8 can not be forgotten in a bag, lunchbox or jacket. Should the nu·m8 watch be removed unexpectedly, you will receive an email and / or SMS alert.

When you register your nu·m8, you indicate the mobile number and email address that it will respond to. Once nu·m8 is on your child's wrist and activated, you can locate them anytime in two ways: 1) Using the customer portal at Lok8u.com and view their current location on a map, OR 2) Receive their location via text message using your mobile phone.

You can also set pre-determined "Safe Zones" for your child to play in. Should they move out of this area you will receive an alert to inform you this has happened. nu·m8 utilizes GPS and GSM technology to locate your child indoors, outdoors, in the US as well as globally.

nu·m8 requires a monthly subscription to the Lok8u pinpoint services in order to send unlimited location requests--via the web or your mobile phone.

Know Where They Are
Simply connect to the lok8u customer portal from your PC or text message from your mobile phone to locate your child, anytime, anywhere.

Instant Alerts if Removed
If the strap of your child's nu·m8 is opened without your authority, an immediate alert is sent via SMS and email to warn you this has happened.

Set Your Own Boundaries
The "Safe Zone" feature allows you to easily set your own defined area by time and day. An immediate alert is sent via SMS and email to inform you if your child strays outside this area.

DO NOT BUY!!! - D. Mcdougal - Chicago, IL
Went through three watches and over 2 hours of customer service. It is a great concept but I think it is the T-Mobile side of the equation that is the problem. Do not buy!!!

DO NOT BUY - Michael Liedel - Houston ,TX
I bought this for my 13yr old to track durring spring break. what a complete waste of money. First the thing didnt work. I charged it as tld to do for 10 hrs. Watch never updated. When I went to check where my daughter was, the portal said that the clasp was on, battery was charged, and she was in the safe zone. Yet whn i tried to track location I repeatedly got an error saying the watch was off. Customer service was a joke. First they sd charge it another 10 yrs. Then their nxt idea was to hit the reset button and hope that works. finaly after 45 min on the phone they came to the comclusion that i might have a defective product.Another 20 min on the phn and they came to the conclusion that a swap was needed. OMG i hope the nxt one isnt junk like this

Timex 5F011 Bodylink BUNDLED WITH 5G751 Data Recorder 2

Timex 5F011 Bodylink BUNDLED WITH 5G751 Data Recorder 2 Review

First, this has completely taken my training to a whole new level. I'm a medium distance runner training now for a half marathon. After using the speed & distance & heart rate monitor many times, I've started to get very familiar with where my heart rate should be if I'm going to have enough left to go the distance. And being able to see my pace in real time pushes me to make sure that I have *just* enough left, and not a bit more. My improvements in speed have been dramatic.

In terms of the actual product and features, I'd rate this as very good. The speed & distance GPS unit is extremely accurate. It takes a bit longer than I'd like (about a minute) to lock on to the satellites, but that's not a real problem, just a minor annoyance. Also, once, I fell after twisting my ankle. I stopped the chrono while I walked it off, then started it again when I started running. All of a sudden, though, I was doing 2' 55" miles. Needless to say, something was wrong. I stopped and started the chrono a couple more times, but still got similar readings. It wasn't until I stopped and restarted the GPS 45 minutes (and an alleged 15 miles) later that my pace started reading something realistic. That's only happened once.

The heart rate monitor works fantastically. I got a couple of spikey readings (240 bpm down to 0bpm back up to 240bpm) the first time I used it right at the very beginning. But I suspect that had more to do with the fact that I was still adjusting it on my chest since I had never used one before and wasnt' yet quite comfortable with it. Other than that one first time, though, it has given extremely accurate readings and has been invaluable in helping me keep myself at a pace that my body can sustain.

The data recorder has worked flawlessly except that it's a bit annoying that the data recorder and the chrono in the watch need to be started and stopped separately. At first this kind of bothered me, but having used it now for a month, I realize it makes very little difference if the data on the recorder is for a run that is for three seconds longer or shorter than what my watch reads. For training purposes, this has made no difference at all to me.

The worst part of the whole package is the timex trainer software. I suspect that in the HRM and S&D data over the course of a training run, there's a lot that I could learn about when my body starts to fatigue, how soon that occurs, and how that point changes as my condition improves etc. etc. I say that I "suspect" because there's no way I'll ever be able to find out using the training software. The graph it produces of an individual run is miniscule to begin with and cannot be resized. Also the scale cannot be altered. After all I'm not really interested in knowing much about what happens in the heart rate 0-160 zone, as I never run in that zone. I'd like to be able to set the HRM scale to 165-185 and the speed zone to... well, I'm not saying :-) Because only by doing that will the small differences in heart rate over a run appear large enough to see with clarity. I suspect the only way I'll be able to use that kind of data is by exporting it to excel. I've done that, but am not yet handy enough with it to see the kind of data that I really need in the way I want to.

In a nutshell, I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to get a handle on what their body is capable of, and to improve it as well. It works excellently and I'm planning on keeping mine on when I run in the actual half marathon this april.

Timex Body Link - Val Mertens - Illinois
Don't waste your money. I have had this product for about 5 years. I have had the GPS receiver replaced. I have to replace batteries after every fourth use or it quits in the middle of the run. It quits in the forest preserve. It quits in the middle of a city. It quits in the open country of Kansas. It quits in the middle of almost every run I take. I run at least three marathons each year and it drops the GPS on at least two. Find something else. I am forced to give it one star, which it doesn't deserve.

Timex say it ain't so! - Kevin J. Taylor - Syracuse, IN
I have always loved Timex watches, so my decision to pick this watch over the Suunto and Garmin was not a difficult choice. Unfortunately, I am less than impressed. The watch itself is fine, but I don't like the indiglo because it is not very bright. There is plenty of data that can be analyzed, but there is just something about the system that is no good. The GPS unit is finicky and doesn't always connect for me. The data recorder is small which is nice, but it is a pain to start the gps, watch, and data recorder and then run. There has to be a better way. The data recorder is a MAJOR disappointment when connecting to my PC. The cable is like a early 90s computer cable instead of usb that plugs IN the recorder. I have to connect the usb and squeeze the recorder to the cable with BOTH hands and hold it until it connects and downloads data. Sometimes this takes several attempts and often I have to start over when the recorder disconnects in mid download. The software is not very impressive either. I hate to say it... no it pains me to say it, don't buy this item. You have been warned.

Timex Ironman T5G311 Midsize Bodylink System Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

This monitor/watch is a fun tool to track heart rate and speed/distance. My only complaints are that it takes an excessive amount of time to link up to a GPS and the display is pretty small because there is so much information on it. Watch fits great and HR rate monitor is reliable but GPS technology needs some refining.

This Speed and Distance system will track your speed (real-time, average, and maximum), pace (real-time, average, and best), and overall distance. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet)--suitable for swimming but not for diving--and the GPS sensor is splash resistant. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

GREAT FOR THE PRICE - Jonathan D. Williamson - SAN DIEGO
THIS ONE DOES IT ALL. GREAT SIZE (SMALLER FOR WOMEN)AND VERY FUNCTIONAL. EVERYTHING WORKED AS ADVERTISED AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH IT. I HOPE THE NEXT VERSION KEEPS THIS QUALITY AND PRICE.

Nice watch but GPS is shaky - Michael Iacovelli - Philly
I bought this for my wife as she was training for a 10 mile run. I have had success with Iron Mans, plus it was a petite watch with powder blue accents - perfect for a woman, and not some big thing she'd have to wear on her wrist. Watch and heart rate monitor worked great, but the GPS function was shaky - it dropped out and did not register the distance correctly. I returned the product and the rep told me that this model has been out for a while. I am thinking there is newer technology, and I hope Timex comes out with an updated model.

Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch

Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

I bought this watch two months ago, and have been training with it since then. I have to tell you that at the price advertised, this watch is a real bargain.

I had doubts when deciding my purchase due to a couple of negative reviews, but after using the watch I am really happy with my purchase.
The watch looks nice, so you won't have any problem wearing it all day and if this is your first HRM, it will change your training forever.

I have to tell you that the watch is a very sophisticated training tool, so I urge to read the manual. This is important even for small details, for example, at the beginning I was worried because the watch was not reading my heart rate instantly, after reading the manual I became aware that you need to moisten the sensor before using it, and problem solved. The watch has been working perfectly.

This watch offers a lot of very useful functions that other more expensive watches do not. It is an excellent sports watch and an excellent heart rate monitor as well.

Heart Rate Watch - K. Fulton - Australia
I purchased a Heart Rate Watch & Chest Strap for my husband for xmas 09. I ordered the watch approx 8-10 day before and it arrived within 4 days.
My husband loves the watch and it looks and works perfectly. The watch is used for intensive training and it seems to handle it well.
I would recommend this to anyone.
Amazon have been very quick with posting the item out. I searched for some time trying to find the cheapest and amazon couldn't be beaten on price.

great functions, low quality - Sandro Fabres Viana - Rio Grande, RS Brazil
The funtionality is really great. It is very easy to use and the sensor is quick reading; However, the batery last ony 20 hours, not the 800 like informed in the manual. I sent to the timex in my country, tehy tested and did't find any problem, but even so sent me another. What ahppened? 20 hours after the batery was dead. So, obviously it was built wiht low quality standards, because excessive energy consume is the mark of of low quality eletronics. Try another. I live in Brazil, so I need pay US300 for this trash! Yes, US300!

Timex Ironman Midsize Race Trainer Heart Rate Monitor with Data Xchanger Watch, Black/Grey, Mid Size

Timex Ironman Midsize Race Trainer Heart Rate Monitor with Data Xchanger Watch, Black/Grey, Mid Size Review

This product is deserving of 5 stars but the software for the data Xchanger USB dongle that you have to download does not work for OS X 10.6.2 SL. It works perfect for windows 7 though (I am running windows 7 pro 64-bit). That is the only reason why this product gets 4 stars because of the fact that they say it works for mac but it doesn't. Otherwise, the heart rate monitor is simply amazing. The fact that both the HRM and the watch are waterproof is another bonus because after my workouts i am usually drenched from head to toe (and i mean that in a literal sense- undies and all) and all i do to clean it after bathing is just use some soap and warm water to wash off both HRM and watch. The HRM is accurate- really accurate. and the watch keeps in constant communication with the HRM as soon as you initiate the monitor from the watch. It will keep that communication until you remove the sensor and it receives no data from your heart for about 30secs or more.
You can save up to 10 workouts and have them wirelessly downloaded through the data xchanger. you can program in different types of workouts into the watch and then follow them once you start. This watch is a full blown personal trainer on your hand, and it looks no different from a regular watch, it just displays loads of data on it. And you can customize the watch to your heart's content. This is my first HRM and I cannot be more satisfied with the purchase (pricy, but well worth it. I was not going to go with any cheaper watch that did not satisfy all my needs just because it was my first HRM). Read the reviews on all the HRMs before buying because they led me to this watch and I could not be happier.

The 'Recovery Heart Rate Timer' measures your heart rate after a timed recovery period during or after your workout, giving you further information about your fitness level. Additional functions include 'Percentage-of-Max Heart Rate Display' and 'Calories Burned.' 'Digital Transmission' protects your data from cross talk with other heart rate monitors and electronic interference from exercise equipment.

In addition to heart rate monitor specific functions, the Ironman Race Trainer comes loaded with functions to maximize your training. The watch is equipped with five variable intensity interval timers and a 100-hour chronograph with lap and split in large digits, allowing you to time yourself with ease and accuracy. The watch also features a 50-lap memory for each workout with average heart rate per lap readings. In addition, the watch has a 100-hour, three-mode countdown timer and three alarms with daily, weekly, and weekly with five-minute backup alarms for security. The watch is equipped with an Indiglo night-light with Night-Mode feature so you can read the watch and use its functions anywhere. A polyurethane integrated strap is comfortable for high-exertion wear and daily use, and the watch boasts a 3.5-year battery life and is water resistant up to 100 meters.

Pretty easy to use - Chris A. Robertson -
It came preset to my timezone and date which was pretty cool, everything else is really easy to setup, this does include the heart rate monitor, watch, and USB transfer drive. I love the look of this watch!

Nice all-around, but one annoyance. - Ral - Silicon Valley, USA
Nice all-around watch/HRM that I purchased mainly for monitoring my heart rate during workouts and running. So, after several workouts, a "Memory Full" message is displayed whenever I scroll to the other features. It does not affect any of the operations, but it is annoying to me.

I believe workouts are saved every time you reset any of the timers, and the memory function works on the FIFO principle. There is no option in the menus to clear the workouts held in memory, only to "Lock", or preserve workouts you do not want erased when the memory rolls over. Hopefully, a "Clear memory?" option will be included in future releases.

Timex Ironman T5J985 Unisex Trail Runner Bodylink Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

I read all the reviews here and echo them - this watch is great. It lets you run without worrying about a route...just run and let the GPS calculate how far you've gone.

Another neat feature is the hands-free. I set it and it logs the split times at every lap. Great feature.

I checked Ebay, and found one new for 5, so check there if you're looking for a deal. Ebay, of course, is hit or miss, and there is more risk involved.

Specifications

Combining GPS location data with heart rate monitoring, the Timex Ironman Trail Runner (model T5J985) is a great choice for serious and professional runners, providing latitude and longitude, altitude/elevation data, exact real-time/average/maximum speed, and pace calculation. It offers a stylish silver watch face accented with bright yellow, dark gray resin band with buckle closure, chest-strap heart rate monitor, and lightweight GPS receiver.

Location features include the ability to record up to 10 waypoints, on-the-move compass directional heading, and a Track Back function to navigate you back to a selected waypoint. Speed and Distance features include tracking of your workout distance (with target distance alerts), continuous odometer for total distance for a workout or group of workouts, and a predictive finish time mode that uses total event distance and pace data. The heart rate monitor features include:

  • Target Zones: Preset your desired heart rate exercise zone. Alarm notification when you are not in zone.
  • Average Heart Rate: Displays your average heart rate over a period of time.
  • Time In Zone: Amount of time spent within your selected heart rate target zone.
  • Recovery Heart Rate Timer: Measure your heart rate after a timed recovery.
  • Max Heart Rate Zone Calculation: Automatically sets your five training zones; one manual zone.
  • Digital Transmission: Timex's system protects your data from other heart rate monitors and most exercise equipment.
This watch also provides:
  • 3-line customizable display
  • Summary Mode: review navigational, speed, distance and heart rate performance data at end of workout
  • 100-hour chronograph with either lap/split in large digits,
  • 100-lap memory with recall of Bodylink system data
  • 2 linked interval timers
  • 100-hour, 3-mode countdown timer
  • 5 alarms for daily, weekday, weekend or weekly with 5-minute backup
  • Up to 2 year battery life
  • Included bike mount

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet)--suitable for swimming but not for diving--and the GPS sensor is splash resistant. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

GPS reception is very poor - Running Man - Houston
I bought the watch a week before the Houston Marathon, primarily for the GPS functionality and the design. I tried the watch out the night before, and got a signal. However, I tried to get a signal during the marathon, on a clear sunny day with no obstructions and didn't once get a signal. Very frustrating. I've tried several runs subsequent to the marathon and never got another signal. I'm returning the watch.

Very nice except for clunky armband GPS - World Traveller - CT USA
I bought this product along with competing models from Garmin, Polar, and Suunto. I wanted to check 'em all out, and I very nearly kept this one and sent the rest back. In the end, I went with the Garmin, and very happy I did. Look for my review there (click on my name to see my other reviews).

Timex is a watch company, and you can tell, because it had by far the best looking and most watch-savvy model of the group. That almost had me sold. Its watch fit on my small wrist, too, which was nice.

But what killed the deal for me was the GPS unit. I decided I really need GPS for tracking where I've been and how far I've gone. There are two problems with Timex' GPS solution:

- the hardware: Timex' GPS is a separate unit strapped to your arm that contains three AAA batteries that run out of juice after 8-12 hours. It's a battery hog. The door of this little plastic GPS thing was so hard to close - I'm not kidding, a really bad fit - I almost returned it for that. So, hit or miss on the manufacturing. That GPS is a third-party unit that both Polar and Timex use, so they're the same. Problem is that unloading and reloading the batteries every few runs will get to be a hassle. And, you look plain silly running down the road with that thing on your arm. The Garmin unit contains it all right inside the watch itself. So superior.

- the software: If you're interested in downloading (uploading) your workouts into your PC and analyzing your total miles, calories, and actually seeing your route overlaid on a map, it will require a lot of steps for you and a little PC savvy to do it with the Timex and Polar solutions. I didn't even look at Suunto's, because their GPS solution was way out of my price range. Garmin's software is so easy - read my review and you'll see.

But, if you don't need GPS, this would have been a super watch for training purposes.

Timex T5D761 GPS Speed and Distance Sensor

The vendor (Pro Sport Watches) included a watch (at no extra cost) along with the sensor and this turned out as a plus for me since I had ordered only the sensor. The system works fine and I would recommend Pro Sport Watches to my running friends.

Works great! - J. Stroup - Fishers, IN
Bought this for my husband who runs several days a week. He loves it. The battery seems to run down quickly (usually lasts 1 month).

T5D761 GPS Sensor - T. fifer -
It takes a long time to locate a signal. Once it finds a signal it works fine; however, it does lose it's signal every once in a while which is a bit frustrating. Not real excited about the product at the time.
